I want to introduce myself. I’m Mrs. Houghton, and I’m “The Reading Lady.” As an educator and reading specialist, I created The Reading Lady to help children learn to read and to impart my love of reading. Reading is an adventure that changes with each new book. It is a journey that you can take over and over again.
I would like to share my background as an educator. I’ve been a reading specialist for over 20 years, and an educator for 26 years. I have my Masters in Reading from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. I hold certification as an elementary teacher, a reading specialist, and a school district administrator.
In addition to belonging to the International Reading Association, I’m a member of The American Center for Law and Justice, The National Wildlife Federation, and The Heritage Foundation. I have been recognized by Cambridge Who’s Who, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Education. I’m also a proud supporter of the Christian Appalachian Project, Prison Fellowship, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Boys Town, Feeding America, Food for the Poor, The National Organization for Marriage, Defenders of Wildlife, the World Wildlife Fund, and Concerned Women of America.
