Summer Reading Fun!
Greetings everyone! With summer on the way, my thoughts turn to the beach and books. I like nothing better than to pack up my towel, sunscreen, a snack and a good book before heading to the beach. It’s wonderful to have the time to relax and lose myself in a good book. Whatever your summer plans are, remember to include lots of books!
If your child doesn’t already have one, now is the time to get a library card and use it often. Your librarian can help you find books that are age- and reading-level appropriate for your child. Another resource for leveled readers is Reading A-Z.
Parents, if you aren’t sure as to which books might appeal to your younger and older children, Scholastic has a great resource for summer reading. The list is broken up by age and provides the titles, authors and illustrators. You can also sign up your kids for the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. Kids can have fun throughout the summer logging their time spent reading.
Remember that wherever you are this summer, it’s always a good time and place to read. Reading builds our awareness of the world around us, entertains us and prepares us for any number of endeavors. If your kids want to know more about the world around them, check out some great non-fiction books for kids at Amazon. Tried and true favorites for entertaining include Dr. Seuss, Beverly Cleary and Roald Dahl, just to name a few.
I have always loved to learn and want to pass that passion along to all of you. I encourage both children and adults to broaden their horizons through books. Once you get started, you’ll never stop reading.
From all of us here at The Reading Lady, we wish you a fun-filled, read-a-thon summer!
